Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) organized a combined webinar and physical demonstration event on Algal cultivation in RAS process water on the 11th of February. The event hosted SAFE partners (Syke, Eurofish, and CIIMAR) together with national stakeholders from Finnforel, FennoAqua, and Natural Resources Institute Finland.
At the event both the opportunities and difficulties of using RAS process water in algal cultivation were presented together with some solutions and new horizons. Also the promising, preliminary results on the antimicrobial and prebiotic properties of the produced algal biomass were shared with the stakeholders.
The event ended to a tour in the Marine research laboratory of Syke where the whole process of algal cultivation in RAS process water in 320 liter units from setting up the cultures to harvesting and processing of the biomass was demonstrated.
